چکیده

In hookworm surveys, it is not always possible to examine the faeces in the field, and a field laboratory with expert microscopists entails a great deal of expenditure of money. An intelligent laboratory assistant can, however, collect faeces in the field, label them properly and forward them to a central laboratory where they can be examined in large numbers daily by centrifugalization and egg counts. Maplestone (1929) experimented with different fluids and found that antiformin of 2 per cent strength in water was a good preservative. He

Rapid concentration and sensitive detection of hookworm ova from wastewater matrices using a real-time PCR method.

The risk of human hookworm infections from land application of wastewater matrices could be high in regions with high hookworm prevalence. A rapid, sensitive and specific hookworm detection method from wastewater matrices is required in order to assess human health risks. Currently available methods used to identify hookworm ova to the species level are time consuming and lack accuracy. In this...

Comparison of concentration methods for rapid detection of hookworm ova in wastewater matrices using quantitative PCR.

Hookworm infection contributes around 700 million infections worldwide especially in developing nations due to increased use of wastewater for crop production. The effective recovery of hookworm ova from wastewater matrices is difficult due to their low concentrations and heterogeneous distribution. In this study, we compared the recovery rates of (i) four rapid hookworm ova concentration metho...

The Rate of Loss of Hookworm Eggs from Fæces

This clearly shows that the rapid deleterious effect of fairly high temperatures on hookworm eggs is recognized, but it gives no information as to what this effect is, nor how it bears upon egg counting results. In describing his method of conducting a survey of the whole of India, Chandler (1928) discusses the possibility of loss of eggs during transit of faeces to the central laboratory in Ca...
